THQ Asia Pacific To Close Down

In yet another blow to the local game industry, we’ve just recieved word that Melbourne-based publisher/distributor THQ Asia Pacific is set to close its doors in the coming months, with Queensland-based distributor All Interactive Entertainment set to pick up their products from an unspecified date. AIE also happen to handle the Capcom products THQ used to handle (a recent change over, mind you), as well as THQ’s products in New Zealand. This comes a matter of weeks before the last big title THQ had to release for the year, WWE 13.

Speaking on the closure is Ian Curran, the Executive Vice President of THQ Global Publishing – ” The evolution of our distribution model in the Asia Pacific region will allow us to increase our reach with a lower cost model.  AIE is a trusted business partner with whom we have worked with for many years as our distributor in New Zealand. We believe the company will benefit from AIE’s backing and comprehensive distribution network across Australia.” On the AIE side, we have Robert Kingston, who’s the director of the company:  “We look forward to bringing THQ’s highly-anticipated new video game releases and existing game portfolio to our retail network in the territory.”

Unbelievably awful news. Here’s hoping the fine folks that worked there are able to land on their feet and find new work, there’s some truly talented people that worked there, and it’d be a shame for that to go to waste. Pour one out, they definitely deserve it.
