For what seemed like forever ago (well, 2011), Telltale announced that they’d be working on a game based on Bill Willingham’s Fable’s comic. For those who haven’t read it, it’s the tale of your a number of fairytale and mythological characters living in today’s society, and coping with trying to keep their existence a secret. And then all was silent for two years. Since then, the company subsequently released a number of successful and yet mixed adventure games, but the Fables game was still a mystery. And now we know where it’s been all these years, still in development, and coming out later this year; but not as Fables, but as “The Wolf Among Us”.
The announcement comes via an IGN interview with Telltale CEO Dan Connors, wherein he revealed the game would take place before the start of the comics, and tells the tale of Bigby Wolf, what we know as the Big Bad Wolf, who has been exiled to New York City from Fabletown. His job is to ensure that the fairytale creatures don’t get discovered by the mundy’s (the regular people, so to speak), but nothing is ever that easy. ‘
Speaking on the game, Connors explains: “Developing The Wolf Among Us based on the Fables universe has allowed our studio to build upon all of the hallmarks of what makes our episodic series so engaging for players. Through an evolution of our approach to choice and consequence, we can further explore the complexity of each and every iconic character in a universe rich with untold history from the darkest sides of the storybooks.” Well, we’ll know if they’ll be successful soon enough – the game is hitting roughly the middle of the year for a PC/Mac, PSN and XBLA release.
