PAX Australia Officially Coming To Melbourne

The previously announced Penny Arcade Expo will be coming to Melbourne for 2013 and 2014. The event will be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds on July 19-21 2013, confirming details that had previously leaked. The confirmation was made at the Game Connect Asia Pacific 2012 conference by Penny Arcade President Robert Khoo and Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business Louise Asher.

Asher described the event a “major coup” for Victoria, “PAX is the world’s premier gaming festival and the decision to choose Melbourne to hold PAX Australia represents a fantastic opportunity to highlight Victoria’s creative capabilities on a global scale.” Khoo described why PAX was coming to Australia, “When we reached out to our international fans, the response from the Australian community for a local PAX was overwhelming. Melbourne has a long history of supporting the gaming scene, through showcasing cultural game exhibits to supporting world renowned game developers.”

PAX is a series of community-centric gaming conventions held by the webcomic Penny Arcade that celebrating all elements of gaming from video games to table top and board games. There are currently three PAXs held in America: PAXs Prime and Dev in Seattle and PAX East in Boston. PAX Australia will be the first PAX to be held outside of America.
