It’s been nearly three months since the last time Nintendo picked up and subsequently dropped the mic with its E3 Direct, perfect timing to do it again! Nintendo’s direct for September 2019 just finished airing, and quite a lot was announced.
Overwatch Coming To Switch
Perennial salt simulator Overwatch, after many a leak, is coming to the Nintendo Switch on October 15th. If you’ve ever wanted to play Overwatch on the go, your dreams have finally come true.
ARE YOU OKAY? Terry Bogard comes to Super Smash Bros Ultimate
The next challenger has been described in the past as a Fatal Cutie, but don’t let that throw you! Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury is the fourth DLC character for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. While we didn’t see (or hear) much of Terry in action, he was confirmed to be releasing this November. If the 100 Mega Shock of Terry’s announcement wasn’t enough, Banjo is coming to the game today, and more DLC is coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate. In a follow up video, Sans from Undertale is confirmed as a Mii costume, which will include an exclusive remix by creator Toby Fox.
Deadly Premonition 2 is a sentence we can now say.
In what has to be one of the most left field announcements in recent memory…Deadly Premonition is getting a sequel. I cannot believe I just typed that. Titled “A Blessing In Disguise”, the game will be launching in 2020, and will be helmed by director/writer Hidetaka “Swery65” Swehiro! If you need to know why this is such a big deal to a lot of people, the original game is coming to the Nintendo Switch later today.
Now you’re playing with Super (Switch) Power
The offerings for Nintendo Switch Online have been bolstered with the addition of Super Nintendo games! The implementation will be the same as the NES app for the Nintendo Switch, and contain all the same features (such as save states and rewind). 20 games will be launching with the service starting tomorrow! Nintendo will also be selling SNES controllers that pair with the Switch if you’re a Nintendo Switch online member.
The debut line up is as follows:
Cult Classic RPGs are coming to the Switch!
Two cult classic Nintendo RPGs are making their way to the Nintendo Switch in 2020. 2009’s Xenoblade Chronicles is getting a definitive edition, and is looking fantastic. Eagle-eyed fans may have also noticed that there’s some deleted content that may or may not become fully playable and completed for the first time! 2015’s Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (now known as #FE Encore) is also coming to the Switch, releasing on January 17th 2020. It’ll have new characters and a whole new song. And while it’s not quite a cult-classic, Divinity Original Sin 2 is releasing on the Switch later today, and will have cross-save support with the PC version!
Swords, Shields and Towns!
Game Freak is having a busy year. Aside from showing off Pokemon Sword/Shield, Town was shown off, and some major details were revealed. Firstly, the game is now known as Little Town Hero, and Undertale creator Toby Fox is working on its music. It’s also releasing on October 16th!
Legendary shooters are coming to the Switch
There was a time where Star Wars games were plentiful, and Switch owners will be able to experience this golden time when Star Wars: Jedi Knight II – Jedi Outcast comes to the Switch on September 24. Not to be outdone, DOOM 64 is hitting the Switch on November 22nd.
Animal Crossing can’t come soon enough, but there’s plenty Nintendo in the interim
Aside from showing off Luigi’s Mansion 3, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and a substantial update to Tetris 99, Nintendo showed off what island life looks like in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. March seems so far away still. While you’re waiting for that, Nintendo have a free to start Kirby game for you to play! Known as Super Kirby Clash, you battle foes either by yourself or with friends, and every Kirby has a role to play!
