Intel Extreme Masters Is Coming To Melbourne

It’s a good time to be a fan of Esports and living in Melbourne, as ESL has announced that the Australian leg of the Intel Extreme Masters event will be in Melbourne for the very first time in 2020. Previously a staple of the Sydney Esports scene since it first started in Australia in 2017, the Melbourne IEM event will be the headliner for the 2020 Melbourne Esports Open, which has just announced it’ll be taking place at Melbourne & Olympic Parks from Aug 22-23 2020.

The event promises to bring the best of global Counter-Strike: Global Offensive gameplay, with a $250,000 USD prizepool ($373,812 AUD, converted). “We’re excited for IEM to headline the Melbourne Esports Open”, says Intel’s Santhosh Viswanathan.  “By bringing these two events together, we’re taking what was already Australia’s biggest esports weekend in IEM and making it an even bigger spectacle for fans. We’re also looking forward to showcasing Intel’s gaming ecosystem of products that top esports leagues use to deliver a world-class experience to gamers as well as the gaming community.” Ticketing options for both events have been announced, starting from $69 AUD for IEM Arena tickets, and $25 AUD for ground pass tickets to Melbourne Esports Open.

With the year just getting started, it’s going to be great to see another huge competitive gaming event be a part of the Melbourne scene.
