Disney announced the third iteration of its Disney Infinity franchise, Disney Infinity: 3.0 Edition, featuring characters from the Star Wars universe and contributions from various development studios. Three separate playsets will show off the major eras of the Star Wars franchise.
The starting set, Twilight of the Republic is set around the Clone Wars TV series with Anakin Skywalker and Ahsaka Tano battling against a Droid Army. Yoda, Darth Maul and Mace Windu will also be playable. It will be developed by Ninja Theory (DmC: Devil May Cry).
The second, based on the original trilogy, is Rise Against The Empire. Developed by Studio Gobo, this set recreates key moments of Episodes IV-VI with Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca. Darth Vader will also be playable. The third playset will centres around The Force Awakens; no details or figures were revealed at this time.
Unlike last year’s edition, all Star Wars characters will be playable across all three Star Wars playsets.
Non-Star Wars playsets were also announced. United Front Games (Sleeping Dogs) is working on a Marvel playset featuring Hulkbuster Iron Man and Ultron. Pixar’s Inside Out will also receive a playset . A slew of Toy Box figures were also unveiled, including: Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Tron Legacy’s Sam Flynt and Quorra, Mulan and Frozen’s Olaf.
The game is slated to include both land and space battles. In addition, Sumo Digital (Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed) has been brought on improve the driving mechanics. This ties into the updated Toy Box, which has all-new game modes, a new hub world and more tutorials to better acclimatise new creators. Disney will still be selling Power Discs, but they’ll no longer be blind-buy packs.
Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition will be released later this year.
