In what is a major shift in policy for EA’s digital distribution and game platform hybrid, it has been announced today that Origin is introducing a refund system known as the Origin Great Game Guarantee. It’s features will be available and integrated into the Origin service within the coming weeks, aiming for September according to the official website.
After a rocky start treading water against rival digital competitors, EA will integrate this service to make amends with unhappy Origin consumers. The Origin Great Game Guarantee will be valid to those who are dissatisfied with a purchased game due to a wide range of reasons. Whether it be performance or compatibility issues, or even if you just don’t like the game, EA claims that the new Origin return policy will have you covered. Origin users are eligible within the first 24 hours after launching a game, 7 days after purchase, or 7 days post-release if the title was pre-ordered.
Being a very competitive market, Origin’s new approach may draw attention towards Steam’s restrictive return conditions (only making exceptions to unique cases), and may opt the digital distribution giant to follow suit in terms of policy.
