Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes First Footage Revealed!

Last week, at an event showing celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Metal Gear Solid franchise (and when Hideo Kojima wasn’t proceeding to troll the ever loving god out of the audience in attendance, on Twitter or on various internet forums), KojiPro showed off the first game-related application of their FOX Engine, what we knew for the longest time as “Project Ogre”. That was revealed to be now known as Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes – with details on just what was shown revealed via sporadic tweeting after the event. But now, the footage has gone public and we can all see just what the hell KojiPro is working on next.

Kojima publically unveiled the footage at a panel he was on at the currently on-going Penny Arcade Expo, where he revealed a detail that wasn’t known at the 25th anniversary event – in that it’ll have a PS3 release. But given what this footage also reveals, it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume it’ll be hitting 360 either. You see, the game looks to be set sometime after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker – with terms and names such as “Mother Base”, “Paz” and “Chico” flying about, even if the some of the crazy technology being shown in the trailer doesn’t at all seem like what should exist in the 70’s. What is known though is that it’s an open world game, but that much of that wasn’t shown at the PAX event.

So with what little we know, damn that looks like some good tech. Reminds me a lot of how amazing MGS4 was back in the day – especially the texture and animation work. Tis a really nice thing to wake up to on a Sunday morning.
