The collapse of GAME has proven to be one of the more dramatic stories of the year, with the last month or so seeing the local branches collapsing and falling into administration. And it seems that it’s getting worse for GAME, as its being reported via PriceWaterhouseCoopers, who are handling the administration, that the remaining 31 stores across Australia are to be closed down.
Administrator Kate Warwick (via Gamespot AU), comments in a statement that “In the interests of creditors, the 31 remaining GAME stores are to be closed over the coming weeks and a final closing down sale has commenced with discounts of up to 60 percent available in-store and online”. 16 of these stores are to be closed immediately, with the remaining 15 to be closed shortly afterwards. The statement doesn’t mention specifically what stores are still open, so if you live near a store, it’s not a bad idea to check it out and buy any of its remaining stock.
For the moment though, there’s a small glimmer of hope. There was a meeting planned between PwC & unnamed creditors that happened today up in Sydney, but we’ve yet to hear as to how that went. But for now, it’s another sad chapter in this saga that’s drawing ever closer to a conclusion.
UPDATE: Kotaku AU are reporting that GAME will be going in to liquidation after the company’s creditors voted to wind-up the company.
