Neversoft Officially A Call of Duty Developer
Ever since the ‘final’ Guitar Hero game was released back in 2010, and Activision practically either killed off or let go of its music game developers (such as DJ Hero devs Freestyle Games, who are working on new things!), the fate of Neversoft wasn’t exactly made clear. There were rumours that what was left of Neversoft following the development of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, were working on a new Call of Duty game, but Activision were keeping mum on it. Now, it turns out they’re the next developer working on a COD game.
The announcement comes as Neversoft updated their front page to reveal that they’re hiring for the new game, showing off many pictures of the team happily making a game, and the announcement that they’re working to “push the first person action genre in support of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise”. And that’s all we know about it – that it’ll be a first person shooter. None of the currently eight available jobs mention anything about platform or any other specifics, so again, there’s no idea just what on earth it’ll be about. Possibly you’ll play as an American or Englishman as you shoot foriegn people, possibly there’ll be some controversial moment, possibly there will be an explosion or two. Anything is a possibility at this point.
Seems like such a long time ago, doesn’t it?
In seriousness though, I’m interested as to just what they do – even if this makes Neversoft the sixth developer Activision have working on the franchise (for the record – Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software and non-Activision owned developer N-Space).
